Transitive vs. Intransitive verbs

1. Intransitive verb
When I was revealed, I swallowed bitterly.
There was no way back, I swallowed and jumped from the plane.

1. Transitive verb 
I didn't like the pudding, but I had to swallow it out of politeness.
I swallowed a big mouthful of spaghetti.

2. Intransitive verb
The student just broke when he found out his mark.
The window broke into pieces.

2. Transitive verb
I broke the chocolate bar into pieces.
The angry client broke the window of the shop.

3. Intransitive verb
I like reading in the park.
I prefer reading quietly.

3. Transitive verb
Did you read the newspaper today?
You should read "The Kite Runner"!
